Let&#8217;s talk about the <strong> Advanced Processing Units <\/strong> or <strong> AMD APU <\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The past: the inadequacy of Bulldozer architecture<\/h2>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>In the recent past, think of the Bulldozer architecture and its evolutions, AMD has not been able to compete with Intel&#8217;s \u00ae  contemporary architectures, both in terms of IPC (Instructions Per Clock) and in terms of integration capacity of an increasing number of processing cores in a single CPU package.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tpole.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/CinebenchR15_IPC.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18886\" width=\"856\" height=\"531\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tpole.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/CinebenchR15_IPC.png 856w, https:\/\/www.tpole.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/CinebenchR15_IPC-470x292.png 470w, https:\/\/www.tpole.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/CinebenchR15_IPC-768x476.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 856px) 100vw, 856px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>These two factors have led to a loss of interest on the part of industrial hardware manufacturers in proposing solutions based on AMD architectures, as they are poorly performing and attractive.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Zen architecture<\/h2>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p><strong> With the introduction of the Zen architecture <\/strong>, <strong> AMD <\/strong> <strong> was able to <\/strong> present processors that could <strong> compete in terms of IPC with Intel\u00ae processors <\/strong>, based on a modular approach, which allows them to <strong> use the same core design from low-power architectures (4 cores) to CPUs dedicated to datacenters (64 cores) <\/strong>, and that <strong> integrate for the first time an SMT (Simultaneous Multi Threading) system <\/strong>, <strong> which <\/strong> like Intel\u00ae Hyper Threading &#x2122; <strong> allows to execute two logical threads for each physical core with which the CPU is equipped <\/strong>. <strong> AMD has filled the gap <\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tpole.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/AMD_ZEN_IPC.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18831\" width=\"900\" height=\"512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tpole.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/AMD_ZEN_IPC.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.tpole.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/AMD_ZEN_IPC-470x267.jpg 470w, https:\/\/www.tpole.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/AMD_ZEN_IPC-768x437.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><figcaption>AMD&#8217;s goal with Zen architecture was to increase the IPC by 40% compared to Excavator. In reality, Zen has increased the IPC by 52% and its evolution, Zen 2, has improved the result by a further 15%<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>This <strong> realignment in terms of performance between Intel\u00ae and AMD <\/strong> has aroused the interest of industrial hardware manufacturers, who have started to present products based on the <strong> Zen <\/strong> and <strong> architectures Zen 2 <\/strong>, from low consumption solutions with BGA packages based on processors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpole.it\/en\/tag\/amd-ryzen-embedded-en\/\"> <strong> Ryzen &#x2122; Embedded V1000 and R1000 <\/strong> <\/a>, to <strong> desktop end cards with AM4 socket <\/strong> for <strong> Ryzen &#x2122; <\/strong> processors, to conclude with the <strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpole.it\/tag\/amd-epyc\/\"> cards and server systems with SP3 socket for EPYC &#x2122; CPUs <\/a> <\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img worlds increasingly interoperating in modern applications<\/h2>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Where, on the contrary, <strong> AMD has always had a technological advantage over Intel\u00ae <\/strong> is <strong> on the graphic solutions front <\/strong>, where the acquisition of ATI in 2006 allowed it to acquire  great know-how in the design and implementation of advanced graphic solutions .<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-vertically-aligned-center\" style=\"grid-template-columns:15% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tpole.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Vega_Logo.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18849\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tpole.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Vega_Logo.png 500w, class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><strong> AMD <\/strong>, unlike Intel\u00ae which integrates a graphics processor in the majority of mobile and desktop CPUs, has a more characterized approach and <strong> offers integrated graphics only on the category of processors that it calls APU (Advanced Processor Unit) and on Ryzen &#x2122; Embedded solutions <\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, the <strong> RX Vega 11 and Vega 8 <\/strong> <strong> graphics cores integrated into the AMD APU <\/strong> are <strong> up to 80% better performing <\/strong> than their counterparts Intel\u00ae <strong> UHD 630 and UHD 620 <\/strong>, integrated respectively in the 8th and 9th generation Intel\u00ae desktop CPUs and in the Whiskey Lake &#x2122; family processors.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where are the AMD APUs located?<\/h2>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p><strong> AMD APUs <\/strong>, in terms of CPU performance, are comparable with the best Intel\u00ae Whiskey Lake &#x2122; solutions and with the 8th and 9th generation Intel\u00ae Core &#x2122; i3 \/ i5 processors, while guaranteeing superior graphics performance and representing a <strong> more balanced solution than Intel\u00ae in applications where in addition to the CPU computing power, a discrete GPU side computing power is needed <\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who are they for?<\/h2>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>There are several applications that use the potential of the CPU to perform calculations and those of the GPU to present the acquired data or results to the end user.<\/p>\n\n<p>Typically, in these application scenarios <strong>, the computing performance guaranteed by an Intel\u00ae Core &#x2122; i3 \/ i5 processor is adequate <\/strong>, <strong> but the graphic performance offered by the GPU integrated in these CPUs is not sufficient  and it is therefore <strong> necessary to resort to a discrete low-end GPU <\/strong>, with the consequent <strong> impact on the cost, size, consumption and longevity of the final solution <\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<div ASRock Industrial A1000 <\/a> <\/strong> <strong> in combination with an AMD Ryzen &#x2122; 5 2400G APU <\/strong>, it is possible to <strong> exceed the performance offered by a solution based on Intel\u00ae Core &#x2122; i3 8300 equipped with discrete Nvidia\u00ae graphics <\/strong> <strong> GTX 1030 <\/strong>, <strong> containing costs, size and consumption <\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<div
