Computer On Module
A Computer on Module is a complete computer architecture built on a single circuit board. This off-the-shelf compact module usually needs to be mounted on a baseboard which provides the interface for standard peripheral connectors. Some COM also include peripheral connectors and can be used even without a carrier board. The Computer on Moduledesign is centered on a single microprocessor with RAM and presents generic PC functions readily available. Some devices also incorporate Field Programmable Gate Arrays. COM solutions can be used for specialized applications requiring low power consumption or within embedded systems needing small physical size.
